ShiftsDescription Federal Contract Requirements: Must be a U.S.
Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident
JOB PURPOSE: The Cook is responsible for the food preparation for
all unaccompanied children (UC) in care of the Eagle Lake
Children's Center during their assigned shift. The Cook is also
responsible for following the approved menu so that each child
received the daily required nutrients.
Qualifications ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSBILITIES:
Prepare quality food for all children in care.
Maintain a clean, safe and hazard-free dining room and kitchen
facility at all times.
Ensure the kitchen maintained in compliance with health department
standards.
Assist in maintaining inventory for food purchases and equipment
including monitoring waste control.
Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables,
to prepare for cooking and serving.
Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by
regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and serving
lines.
Ensure children are served according to the approved menu.
Maintain flexibility as census and demographic of UCs change.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 21 years old.
Proficiency in Spanish/English (written and spoken language
skills), highly preferred.
Successfully pass a TB test annually.
Successfully pass a drug screen.
Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing
assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned
task.
Pass a criminal history screen, including state, federal, and local
child protection agency registries.
Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of
confidentiality.
Affidavit for Applicants for Employment with a Licensed Operation
or Registered Children's Home.
EDUCATION:
One year of experience in a food service preparation within a
residential, educational, or daycare preferred.
High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSES: Food Handler Permit
WORK LOCATION:
Eagle Lake Children's Center in-person.
OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel in case of an
emergency evacuation and as the business need dictates. Must be
available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as
required to meet business needs.
EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT
HEAD.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via
oral and written means. Ability to present a friendly and positive
demeanor to staff, board, funders, vendors, customers and the
general public.
COMPOSURE: Ability to establish effective relationships with
colleagues and co-workers, local and national. Ability to
communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication
skills, listening skills, and attitude.
COMPUTER: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products and
Google tools.
DECISION MAKING: Ability to think analytically and evaluate the
impact of the decision. Requires high level of concentration, focus
and use of memory. Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate
and create solutions to work related problems.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Orientation: 40 hours
On the Job: one week.
MACHINE, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDES:
Multi-line telephone, oven, stove, computer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant - Ability to communicate with staff, co-workers, and
children in a professional trauma-informed manner.
Frequent - Ability to input data into the computer, make
calculations, complete paper work, produce progress reports.
Occasional - Ability to lift, stack, load and move up to 25 lbs.

Occasional - Ability to drive safely and recognize hazards.
